Croup is a respiratory disease or rather a respiratory infection. It is also known as laryngotracheobronchitis . Croup is basically inflammation of the larynx and trachea mostly occurring in children. In this the respiratory track gets swells which creates problem in breathing the most common cause of croup is viral infection and viruses. It is a respiratory condition which is caused by an acute infection of the upper airway. In this inflammation of respiratory track the normal breathing is disturbed and causes symptoms like ‘barking’ cough, hoarseness and strider. The symptoms of croup are noisy breathing (a high pitched sound), hoarse voice, and difficulty in breathing, sudden increase in production of mucus/phlegm. Although croup is mostly common in children and affects children between age group of 3 months to 5 years, it can happen to all age groups and can have different varied causes.
